Marina Razbezhkina is a very distinctive Russian documentary director. She took up documentary filmmaking late in her life, initially pursuing a career in education and later journalism.

A member of the European Film Academy, Marina Razbezhkina has received over 25 international and national awards and set up her own school in Moscow, where she transfers her knowledge to aspiring documentary filmmakers.

This portrait of Marina Razbezhkina was taken during a walk-in day at her school. I kept shooting her and couldn’t but have the feeling that it did not go on well. I was using one film roll after another, so she finally came down on me and asked me why I was shooting her. The only answer I came up with was “for history”, which was true.
